November 2011

Ballater and there was no snow, so better weather than last year. 11 vans all Scottish gathered in Royal Deeside, Scoop’s disappointed he missed this one as any journey over the Slug Road is a joy in a motorhome. Word is there was a fine quiz night in the wee snug sitting room at the caravan park set by the hosts Neil and Lesley Watt. Davy and Joyce Craig quietly romped away with a win in the sports quiz while the old hippies Bill and Marlene Tait,  who know a thing or two about the 50’s,  won in the music category, well done. Hard luck to Robert and Forbes who without their good ladies to guide them made a sterling if not very successful effort in the quiz.

It was great to see Robert and Marion back on the road again after an epic repair job. Ballater is a fine venue with a nice walk into town, Marlene says you can hit three pubs and get back before anybody notices you’ve gone just pretend you’re taking the dog for a walk Scoop. I’ll remember that one M old buddy, ta.

We had an early Christmas meal at The Woods  CP, Alva, 11th to 13th Nov. 21 vans all Scottish Group enjoyed a fine weekend. We laid on a bus to the Bridge Hotel for a good meal and a few drinks on the Saturday night. All the feedback received was that it had been a success; we were spoiled a bit with the good weather and the fantastic views over the Ochil hills. Friday night was a stay at home night with members catching up with all the gossip. Saturday saw a few members venture out to the local shops, Nancy was heading off to Specsavers having mistook Scoop’s old bike for a grazing coo. It’s always nice to get the glad rags on. Sunday was the usual coffee morning and the inaugural raffle by the new raffle team of Robert and Yvonne who raised a tidy sum for the group funds, who can resist the big guy as he gently persuades you to part with your hard earned cash, thanks to all who donated a prize. Scoop would like to thank all the members who were asking after his well being when they witnessed him being skelped by Margaret McCraw’s walking stick,  he would  like to confirm it was all a misunderstanding, he was innocent, never said it, he was only agreeing with Tam, the stookie is due off soon. Forbes completed his Chairman’s duties well keeping all in order in his usual charming manner and complementing the driving skills of the Bus driver suggesting it was slightly better than a few of our members, what could he possibly mean?  It was noticed that he had a fine new clip board befitting his new chairman’s role and that his jokes were a bit better than usual.

Thanks to some last ditch behind the scenes work by the committee a potential crisis with the bus was avoided at the last minute, you all did a fine job and thanks to Jack and Caroline at the campsite who looked after us well.

Join us at Monifieth for a New Year rally, contact Marlene or Irene for all the info. The weather forecast is great, don’t sit in watching repeats on the telly, don’t sit by yersel in the van in some old drafty layby bring your bottle and perhaps some clootie dumpling to see in the New Year (or even to chase the old yin away!) Contact the ladies if you fancy coming along.
