Milngavie in the rain, Robert and Yvonne hosted at the West of Scotland Rugby Club, the weather was wet. Robert’s wee feet were soaking as he had fun splashing through the puddles getting the vans parked up and passing round info on what’s happening. A turnout of 22 vans helped make the company convivial.
There were visitors from Severn Valley, Sussex, East Wessex, Avon, and some of our good neighbours from Northern Counties, glad you joined us. Good to meet Joe and Janette Duffy back to rallying after a 10 year break, don’t leave it so long the next time, the last time they rallied was just after Scoop joined the group, was it something I said?
We had a fine gathering in the clubhouse on the Saturday night, a raffle organised by Irene, good lass. A quirky quiz quite wonderfully set by the quiz mistress Yvonne, she had to crack her whip a bit to keep some of the rowdier lot in order, and first equal winners??? Scoop’s team, yeeha, and somebody else. A second but much harder quiz where Scoop’s lot let him down badly, poor show Janette and Joe, won by some of the visitors.
Scoop spied a mountain of plastic bread boards dumped in a corner and thought they would make fine soft ground boards but when he went to get a couple they were all gone, snaffled by some sneaky person who obviously got up a lot earlier on the Sunday morning than he (curse that amber bead) and made off with them without as much as a guilty look back, who would have believed it.
It was wet, and it rained in between the showers, but Andrew and Nancy had bought a new Sun awning and were determined to put it up. Praise where it’s due they were not put off by the pouring rain and wintry weather, the new awning is well christened.
Then it was Pitlochry, Bill and Irene Campbell hosted a good rally, again the weather wasn’t too hot. The Pavilion saw all the evening activities where they ran a couple of fun quizzes that entertained the 25 vans that were there. Good to meet Bett & Brian Toombs at their first group rally and it is always nice to get some visitors from Northern Ireland, Dennis & Irene Barrett and Fiona & Tom Bell, haste ye back. Paddy ran a book sale that raised a smashing £30 for group funds.
Where has the year gone? It’s AGM time soon and we need some fine upstanding folk to help on the committee, no committee no group, no group no fun, no fun makes Scoop a grumpy fella! quoting some old Scottish sage from over Kilbirnie way- “we are not here for a long time we are here for a good time”, where else would we rather be on a wet weekend?
AGM at Blackford on 7 – 9 October. Where we, your committee, would like a few new faces to get involved and see where next year takes us ......... Anything to be raised at the AGM? Let the Secretary know.
