A Tale of Two Campsites
Eleven motorhomes,
all Scottish Group, attended the New Year Rally at Riverview
Caravan Park, Monifieth.
Dave must have been bad because when you’re bad you don’t get a new Sat Nav from Santa. Joyce says “Where do we go that you need one? You never take me anywhere anymore! We only live a few miles from Monifieth what can possibly go wrong”? Everyone managed to find the site nae bother except yours truly, Dave and Joyce who turned up at the ‘closed for the winter’ Tayview Caravan Park instead!
“Nothing to do with me” said Joyce. “I thought he knew where he was going.” Only after two attempts to get an answer from the contact telephone number displayed on the locked reception door did Dave discover from the site warden that there were two caravan parks in Monifieth! A local lad with no local knowledge! Good one, Dave!
“Tayview/Riverview, I thought they were one and the same!” claimed Dave and added “they shouldn’t be so unimaginative with their names!”
The campers who arrived on the Friday met up in the site games room that evening for a drink or two or more (check out the photos to see the size of Joyce’s carry-out) and a blether where the conversation turned to problems some of us were having with our vans – the outcome would appear to be that 5 vans could shortly be coming up for sale!
On Hogmanay, a further three vans arrived and that evening we all headed off for the Panmure Hotel where we had a lovely dinner followed by a disco. But before long we’d had enough (must be an age thing!) and decided to return to the site’s games room to party and make merry our quieter way (Aye, right) to see in the New Year and continued until 3 the next morning.
Don and Joan arrived later on New Year’s Day to wish us all a happy new year and stayed for the finger buffet we were having early that evening. With the amount of tasty food on display, it would appear that everyone thought they were feeding the five thousand! Soon after finishing his meal Weegie disappeared. We thought he had gone back to his van to play with his new satellite system but lo and behold he fell asleep and was not seen again until the next day! The youngest fella on the site failed the last hurdle and went to bed - Oh the shame, oh the indignity; he just couldn’t handle the pace! Why do they call Robert Cinderella? Is it because he has to be back in his bed before the clock strikes 12? Kath said she was going to get an application form for Saga for him so he could start going with the oldies! (She must mean the Caravan Club!). Don played us a few tunes on the accordion to start off our Bothy Night. Charlie acted as M.C. the new PA system was like putty in the hands of a master craftsman, (where did you get that hat, Digger?) and a number of our members entertained us with songs, jokes, recitations and poems – one composed by Joyce herself only that very afternoon. This was followed by a communal sing-along of old favourites. A great night and a great rally. Fortunately the weather was much kinder to us this year than last when the rally was cancelled and we are all looking forward to next New Year.
